Laopu Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northernmost Guangxi. The name Laopu Fm derived from the Laopu siliceous bed named by Wang Yuelun (Y. L. Wang) in 1936 and published by Zhao Jinke (Kinghoo Chao) et al. in 1952. It was formally renamed as the Laopu Formation by Guangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1966. The typical section is situated in Silikou in Sanjiang County in Guangxi Zhuangzhu Zizhiqu (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region).

Lithology and Thickness
The Laopu Fm is dominantly composed of chert. Lower part is composed of dark gray thin-bedded chert. Upper part is composed of dark gray thin- to medium- bedded chert intercalated with carbonaceous shale, bearing horizontal beddings and wavy beddings. It has a thickness of 75 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests conformably on the underlying Doushantuo Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Cambrian Qingxi Fm (shown as "Qijiangxi Fm" on schematic stratigraphic column).
Regional extent
Northernmost Guangxi and southernmost Hunan. With a persistent lithology, the top part is commonly intercalated with a phosphatic bed near Sanzhai, Mati of Longsheng County and northward to Tongdao of Hunan Province.

Yields abundant microplants: Trachysphaeridium incrassatum, Pseudozonosphaera uerrucosa, Asperatopsophosphaera partialis, A. rugosa, Pseudodiacrodium aff. uerticale, Hubeisphaera radiata, Paleomorpha figurate, Orygmatosphaeridium rubiginosum, Trachysphaeridium ncrassatum, T. rude, T. planum, T. smplex, Asperatopsophosphaera umishanensis, A. baulensesis, Pseudozonosphaera asperella.
